Live from Hammersmith Apollo D'Banj performs 'All of the lights' with special guest Kanye West!

Letter to The Media about the Disregard at the Afrobeats Festival by Phoenix Media and Promoter Ropo Coko Bar and Partners

Firstly, it gives me great sadness to have to write about my frustration at the media treatment at the just concluded inagural Afrobeats Festival featuring Wizkid, Iceprince and P-square. The event which was put together by Ropo (coko Bar) and Phoenix Media had gathered a lot of publicity through various media outlets ( print, online, airwaves ) which reached its pinnacle at the pre show press conference.

The day before the event, media organizations who had in the last few months helped in one way or another to promote the Afrobeat Festival had been granted access from far and wide to help push the project over the finish line. It was quite clear at the press conference that 60% of the so called media in attendance were nothing more than female friends and aquaintances of the event organizers and fans of the headliners . Phoenix media representatives asked the present press representatives to register for press tickets which will be picked up ( as they do ) at the box office on the event day.

BLOODBATH

On getting to the event which had obviously sold out due to a well run promotional campaign , the press line was full of some familiar faces whom had attended the press conference previously and loads of other v.i.p guest whom were meant to pick up their tickets. To my surprise, a huge chunk of the active press core at the conference the day before and those whom have promoted the Afrobeats festival for months were being told one after the other that their organization's names had been cut from complimetary tickets and press accrediation all together. It was nothing short of a media humiliation and complete press disregard.

Phoenix media and coko bar officials whom the day before could be seen hugging, kissing and thanking media outlets for their support and hard work were now ignoring and walking past the same people they had shown respect and gratitude to . For an up and coming online magazine like ourselves, it didnt hurt as much when we witnessed leading establishments such as Fab Afrique CEO and editor being told they couldnt go in and Factory78tv CEO being shouted at by a Phoenix media official who was later named as Abi.

Some of the media outlets which faced the Afrobeats festival bloodbath included organizations like Truespot Radio (USA), HipTV(Nigeria, Ayo Animashaun was seen sitting disgruntled on his equipments with staff members outside the venue too), Seyi klaxi,Gabz INC,Vibez,Factory78tv etc. These were some of the recognisable outlets and i am in no doubt loads more were shown the door too. I am sure some of these people and organizations might have finally got in after being made to beg several promoters and Phoenix media officers for access like fans or shall i say GROUPIES who couldnt think to leave with their pride intact.

To Ropo, Coko Bar Partners and Phoenix media, Afrobeats festival was a success because of the good music being produced by acts , Dj's who spin these records and last but not least THE MEDIA (print, online, airwaves) who promote the music and acts.Your continued monopoly of concerts and disrespect of media officials is mainly due to the stupidity and desperation for popularity of tv stations like HITV and sponsors like KATO Enterprises will COME to an end sooner rather than later and the earlier KATO enterprises and HITV realise how deep in the mud their names and images are, the better for their brands.

Speaking to shocked press officials outside the venue , it was discovered that this had been a regular occurence with Ropo,Cokobar and Phoenix media partners, asides from refusing to put UK based African acts on the bill (and when they do, they are either members of the JJC family or they are asked to perform for FREE) they continously use and abuse media representatives for their financial gains (sharp move ). But guess what people? "TIME IS ALMOST UP"

*A WORD TO MY PRESS COLLEAGUES, Support AfroBeat Music, Promote Afrobeat Acts, RESPECT YOUR PUBLICATIONS/OUTLETS AND SAY NO TO MONEY GRABBING,FAME HUNGRY,PRESS DISRESPECTING,OPPORTUNITY TAKING PROMOTERS LIKERopo,CokoBar and SHAM PR OUTLETS like Phoenix media

As they say "Beat me once shame on you, beat me twice shame on me" a word is good for the wise SAY NO to these self centered frauds (aka arrogant 419ers).
On behalf of the UK media for the Afro-carrebian demographic .

KETCHUP FEATURING DJ JAM JAM - NUVO (REMIX)‏. Published by DjLanre

POSH HILL ENTERTAINMENT PRESENTS KETCHUP FT. DJ JAM JAM - NUVO (REMIX)

Arguably one of the biggest Nigerian Artistes based in Malaysia, Ketchup has managed to carve a niche for himself in the Malaysian music industry and is now ready to conquer the Nigerian scene. Born Onyido Nkemjika, Ketchup grew up in the city of Lagos, Nigeria. From a very tender age he exhibited a level of creativity that was rare in children his age so it came as no surprise when he took up dancing during his secondary education in Ijaniki, a Federal Government College on the outskirts of Lagos.

Nkem discovered music while dancing in secondary school and he was so good, the younger students tried emulating him and came to him for lessons in both music and dance. It was then he realized that music and dance were his passion and thus began his love affair with both of them. The name KETCH-UP was given to him by his friends because he was always the life of the party whenever they got together. “Nkem will ‘ketchup the place’” was a regular slang amongst his friends and the name stuck.

Ketchup has recorded songs in Malaysia with top artistes like James Baum, Brittela, Dabenja, Yomi Vuitton, Jowie, Micah and Deuce and has performed at different shows alongside MI, Jesse Jagz, BankyW, WizKid, Sexy Steel, Wande Coal, Flavour, Dr Sid and Terry G. He has also worked with DJs such as Dj JAM JAM , DJ Flavour and Dj Quest. Ketchup is known as a very versatile artiste due to his ability to switch styles when needed. His energy and creativity on stage set him in a different league all together.

Ketchup is moving... and moving fast. His first two awards came when he won BEST MALE ARTISTE  and BEST STAGE PEFORMANCE all in one night at the AEA 2011 IN MALAYSIA and he has now been nominated for MOST PROMISINC ACT TO WATCH at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards(NEA) in New York.

This humble, funny, energetic and creative performer is focused and would never back down from what he views as a challenge. He has come to set his mark On the entertainment industry as a whole.

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith separate after 13 years of marriage' . Published by Factory78

They certainly gave no hint of trouble during their interview with Architectural Digest magazine only weeks ago. They have two children together - Jaden, 13, and Willow, ten. Jada, 39, also told the magazine: For Will and me this home was always a spiritual endeavour. When describing the layout of the 25,000sq ft house, Smith gushed that it had been designed with no dead ends… to create an infinite cycle that represented what Jada and I hoped for our love'. We’re very earthy, organic people. We wanted to create a family retreat, something made by hand and as natural as possible, something that ties back to the land. She continued: Whatever it becomes, the craftsmanship will always represent our union and the love of our family.

This will be the second marriage to end for Smith, who divorced former fashion design student Sheree Zampino in 1995 after three years together. They have a son, Willard Christopher Smith, also known as Trey, who is now 18. He famously dedicated his 1998 single, Just the Two of Us, to Trey. Lyrics included: 'It didn't work out with me and your mom/But yo, push come to shove/You was conceived in love. After his first divorce, Smith found comfort in Jada, whom he had first met in 1990 when she auditioned and was rejected for the role of his girlfriend on his hit TV show, The Fresh Prince.

Smith is one of the biggest film stars in Hollywood, with his blockbuster hits including Independence Day, I, Robot, Hitch, I Am Legend, The Pursuit of Happyness and I Am Legend. He recently began filming the third instalment of his hit franchise, Men In Black. Jada, who enjoyed success with her acting career early on, recently spoke of her decision to sacrifice her singing aspirations for the sake of her family. In 199, they married in a lavish ceremony at a mansion near her hometown of Baltimore in front 100 friends and family.

In an interview with the August issue of Redbook magazine she claimed she even turned down a chance to perform with Guns & Roses to support her children's budding careers. When Jaden was auditioning for The Pursuit of Happyness, my band had just gotten an offer to open for Guns N’ Roses in Europe. It was excruciating, completely excruciating,' Jada said of her decision. For me, that was unbelievable.

But the choice was: I could be a rock star, or I could be on the set with my son to make sure he was healthy and happy. We all know how that story ended!' Jada admitted she would rather be performing but she knows that her duty is to her children. I had to make choices. Believe me, I would still be on the road with my band, Wicked Wisdom, and making as many movies as I can a year, and doing all sorts of other things if I didn't have the responsibility of a family. But I have children with their own talents and dreams, and I know I have to be standing next to them for that journey. SOURCE Daily Mail

Trainer Freddie Roach Says Manny Pacquiao Is Broke

Boxing trainer Freddie Roach, made a pretty eye popping comment recently when talking about his fighter Manny Pacquiao.
During an interview Roach reportedly told author and boxing trainer Brin-Jonathan Butler, that because of Pacquaio's large entourage and big heart he has to keep fighting, no matter what.

“He’s broke because of that and all the people he flies around to his fights," Roach said. "He goes through money like you wouldn’t believe. He can’t say no. Of course he’ll have to keep fighting. He does now. He won’t be able to stop – it’s his life.”

The Filipino champion made $20 million for his fight with Shane Mosely in May 2011. He's had previous paydays of $15 million for facing Oscar dela Hoya in 2008, and $13 million for each fight against Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto in 2009. In 2010 he got $12 million to defeat Joshua Clottey, and an additional $20 million when he destroyed Antonio Margarito that same year.

With that kind of income it's hard to imagine Pacquiao would be having financial problems, but Roach knows him probably better than anyone else.
I just hope Pac Man doesn't end up like countless former boxing champions who squandered their millions.
