GADGET: Anyone can now buy Google Glass - if you have a US address

Can’t wait to don a pair of intelligent Google Glass specs, but didn’t make the cut for thecompany’s Explorer beta program? We’ve got good news for you today: the search giant is now putting the augmented reality eyewear on sale for the public to buy today, with just one small catch. Read on for all the details.

Google has had a 24 hour sale to the public before, letting anyone with $1,500 (£890) to spare order the web connected spectacles that provide alerts, web searches and directions straight to your eyeballs. This time though, it’s opening the doors permanently, letting anyone sign up to be an Explorer on the Google Glass website, stock dependent.

There’s just one catch, mind – you’ll need a US address to register. That doesn’t absolutely rule out Glass in the UK just yet, mind, as whether you call in a favour from afriend overseas or use an importing service like Bundlebox, you may still be able to get one through customs and into Blighty to be the envy, or subject of ridicule, of all your mates. But hey, at least you’ll have Robocop vision, and they won’t – what price can you put on that?

Google still says this sale to the public is still part of the Explorer program, and a widerconsumer launch (with, fingers crossed, a lower sale price) is coming later this year, but if you’re an early adopter, what are you waiting for? Watch Jason take Google Glass for a spin in the video below and get ordering!
