Just yesterday we were pondering the wearable smart gadgets we’d like to see, but we never considered introducing a smart cushion into the mix! Darma has done just that, with a cushion that works alongside your smartphone to monitor your posture, stress levels, heart rate and more. Are you sitting comfortably? Look at a snap of the Darma Smart Cushion and there’s not a lot to jump out at you. It’sthin, square and pretty nondescript, but it’s the tech inside that could genuinely make a difference to your health on a daily basis.

All you need to do is sit on the cushion and it can instantly check out a series of vitals, monitoring heart rate, respiratory patterns and even your actual posture. Most of us spend an increasing amount of time sat in front of computers, so we’ll take anything we can to help us stay that little bit more healthy.

The Darma cushion can share all its details with your iPhone using Bluetooth 4.0, with an accompanying iOS app to show off all the details in all their glory. Beats having to talk to the cushion you’re sitting on to get information, at least!

The cushion itself features some tiny thin sensors, and the batteries to keep everything ticking over, but hopefully you won’t feel any of that when sitting down.

The Darma Smart Cushion is still very much in the concept stage, but it’s set to make an appearance on Kickstarter later this year. Prices are set to start at $149 (£88) if you make an early pledge when the company’s page goes live, saving on the expected retail price of $249 (£148).
