Sharp Quattron Pro LC60UQ10

Sharp’s new Quattron Pro LED TV range has touched down around Europe, and they’re easy to get excited about. For starters, while each model is a full HD 1080p TV, each one is actually capable of playing Ultra HD 4K content, and it still looks practically pixel perfect too. That’s all thanks to its subpixel tech, which offers 2.5 times the number of pixels of full HD, making your picture look pin-sharp, and it can natively play 4K content straight throughHDMI. That means you get 4K powers, without the 4K price tag too: you can grab theLC60UQ10, the 60-inch flavour of Sharp’s Quattron Pro, for around £1,799, which hits thesweet spot between the 50 and 70-inch version on offer. There’s no doubt that this year’s World Cup will look superb on one of these sets, and once you’re done watching the big game, the LC60UQ10 also offers smart TV skills for catch-up TV, on-demand movies and games, and there’s even Miracast tech built in to mirror your smartphone or tablet.

Sony KD-55X9005A

If you’re after one of the best TVs on offer right now, you can’t go much better than Sony’s incredible KD-55X9005A, a 4K behemoth that packs in top-notch picture quality, Sony’s Triluminos colour tech and a beefy audio system – but it does come at a steep £3,299. For your dosh, you’re treated to an LCD TV with edge LED lighting, local dimming tech, passive 3D playback with glasses in the box, and Sony’s own Smart TV platform which has plenty of choice for watching your favourite shows on after the final whistle. If you’re after the best of the best to watch this year’s World Cup on, you can’t get much better than this.

Panasonic TX-P60ZT65

Plasma may be on the way out, but it still grants you some of the best picture quality possible, and Panasonic’s tip-top 60-inch TX-P60ZT65 is true testament to that. Currently available for around £2,500, that amount of cash nets you stunning image quality, eye-popping colours and deep-blacks that rival even Pioneer’s legendary Kuro plasma sets of old – even if the set is from 2013. It’s a full HD set that pumps out gorgeous image quality that’s accurate to a tee. Plasma’s on its last legs, but Panasonic’s set is still proof that it gives you incredible detail – you’ll be pleased to watch the finals on this, and save a bit of cashcompared to its 4K rivals.

Panasonic TX-L42E6B

For the cost conscious, Panasonic’s 42-inch LCD-based TX-L42E6B offers you a great deal of bang for buck, and can be had for under £500 too. That nets you a slick, full HD set that not only looks good, but has great image quality, a wealth of connections and plenty of smart TV skills to boot – and this is one of the lower end sets in Panasonic’s LCDrange. If you’ve got a bit of cash to play with, and you’re wanting to experience the World Cup on a 42-inch set, this is surely one to consider.

Toshiba 40L3453DB

Would you believe you can net a 40-inch telly, complete with full 1080p goodness and a wealth of smart TV features for £400? Toshiba’s proving that statement true with its 40L3453DB, a well priced edge lit set that even lets you plug in a USB stick for direct playback. Add in YouTube, iPlayer and Netflix powers too, and even a Freeview HD tuner (brilliant for the price), and you’ve got yourself a brilliant set to watch this year’s World Cup on, and one that won’t break the bank.
