It was 45 years ago today as the world held its breath as the command module Columbia splashed down just south of Johnston Atoll in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, returning Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins from their successful Apollo 11 mission to be the first men to walk on the moon.
