GADGET: Step aside Google Glass: Samsung Gear Blink offers augmented reality keyboard!

Not content with unleashing a load of wearables like the recent Gear S smartwatch, Samsung is also WORKING on its own Google Glass rival, and the clever headset could use Tizen to take the fight to Google. It may also pack an augmented reality keyboard that could change the way we type forever!

We’ve heard that Samsung is WORKING on a Google Glass rival before, but according toTizen Experts, the headset now has a name, and is likely to be called the Samsung Gear Blink. It’s also set to launch next year around the same time as the Samsung Galaxy S6, potentially hitting us with a double whammy just like the Note 4 and Gear VR combo unleashed at this year’s IFA.

It also looks like Samsung’s pushing ahead with its Tizen-based future, along with smartwatches, SMARTPHONES and even a smart TV on the South Korean giant’s agenda, and the Glass-rival could really help to push the OS forward, especially if Samsung implements the clever-looking keyboard it has up its sleeve.

A trademark number connected to Gear Blink – 4020140033123 – has popped up on the Korean Intellectual Property Rights Information Service (KIPRIS), and it shows off one of the most innovative keyboards we’ve ever seen: wear the headset, and you’ll see a virtual keyboard projected onto your hands, making it possible to type in thin air!

We love the idea of it: Talking to your wearable is all well and good, but it’s less than ideal when you’re in a crowded space and people are listening in on your intimate text messages, and a virtual reality keyboard means we’d no longer have to worry about tiny screens on SMARTPHONES – we’d just have to worry about looking a bit odd.

How much the Gear Blink will cost when it does go on sale remains to be seen, and otherdetails are also scarce, but it’ll be great to see some wearables that offer an alternative to Google Wear. We’ll be sure to fill you in as soon as we hear more on Samsung’s Google Glass rival.
