The BlackBerry Passport phone is the last blower we can think of that needs customising to help it stand out, as it takes the term phablet to a whole new level, but it seems somebody disagrees as an (even more distinctive) gold-plated BlackBerry Passport has been spotted. Could this be the most luxurious smartphone yet, or is it a step of bling too far?
BlackBerry's latest creation, the Passport, is like no other smartphone currently on the market, sporting both a QWERTY keypad and a massive square screen, making it one of the top contenders to simply not fit in your pocket. If the 1200x1200 pixel screen and strange form factor isn't enough to catch your attention though, a new gold design may well be.
The slick black design that we've known to expect from BlackBerry has instead been given the Midas touch with a hint of gold, but whether the extra luxury detailing has been added by BlackBerry itself, or a third party willing to charge a king's ransom remains to be seen, but either way it certainly removes the chance of anybody calling this particular Passport drab.
The bling BlackBerry Passport replaces the more subtle metal chassis with gold highlights, and the results aren't actually that bad - to our eyes it's more appealing than even Apple's gold iPhone hues. We've certainly seen more dubious golden creations, like the much more in your face BlackBerry Porsche P'9981, and in comparison it actually looks quite subdued.
The images were spotted over on BlackBerry fansite CrackBerry, and there's currently no word on how much it'll cost over the existing BlackBerry Passport - currently a £530 Selfridges exclusive - or when it'll be hitting the shops. We'll be sure to keep you informed if this golden wonder does hit the shelves though.
