Suge Knight is currently on the run.
Yesterday, on a film set in Compton, Los Angeles, he ran over his friend Terry Carter. He died, Knight fled.
What what do we know about him? Well connected, and often in trouble with the police, Suge, whose name derives from his childhood nickname Sugar Bear, is one of the best known label bosses in rap.
Suge was most recently in the limelight when he was shot six times while partying in a Hollywood nightclub 1OAK with rap friend Chris Brown.
His injuries are thought to have brought on a blood clot in his lung, which nearly killed him last November.
However, he has a long history of involvement with US police.
Shooting - Suge
Suge - real name Marion Hugh Knight Jr - was an NFL hopeful as a schoolboy, and played two games for the Los Angeles Rams.
However, he didn't make the cut and then went to work in the music industry, starting out as a concert promoter and then Bobby Brown's bodyguard. One of his earliest roles in showbiz was with Vanilla Ice's hit Ice Ice Baby. His client Mario Johnson wrote some of the lyrics.
But it didn't take long for him to find himself on the wrong side of the law. In October 1987 he was arrested for cutting off his girlfriend's ponytail.
Just weeks later he was arrested in Las Vegas for auto-theft and carrying a concealed weapon, and attempted murder after shooting a man three times while stealing his car. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanour charge, and was sentenced to two years probation.
Suge is currently on the run
There was also speculations that Knight, 49, was involved in the drive-by shooting that killed Notorious B.I.G. in March 1997 in Los Angeles. Snoop Dogg later stated that he was involve in Tupac Shakur's killing too.
In 1996 he was sentenced to nine years in prison for violating his probation, he served just under five, and in 2003 he was back behind bars for violating parole when he hit a car park attendant.
In 2008 he was arrested on drug and assault charges in a Las Vegas strip club. Police found him beating girlfriend of three years, Melissa Isaac and brandishing her with a knife. No charges were brought.
Later that year he brought a lawsuit against Kanye West and his associates following a shooting at a pre-VMA party in 1005.
Knight was shot in his upper leg and cited damages of mental and physical pain caused by the shooting, costs of surgery, loss of income and the theft of a 15-carat £100,000 diamond earring.
In late March, 2009, Knight was implicated in the robbery of Akon producer, Noel "Detail" Fisher.
Suge's rival, P Diddy
Professionally, Suge is the founder and CEO of Black Kapital Records and co-founder and former CEO of Death Row records.
He dominated the rap charts after Dr Dre's breakthrough album, The Chronic, in 1992.
Suge also worked with Tupac, Snoop Dogg, Outlawz, Tha Dogg Pound, MC Hammer and P Diddy - who he latterly had a huge fall out with.
