GADGETS: Google could soon translate your speech as you say it

Google Translate is set to get an amazing new feature. According to the New York Times, the new version will translate what you say as you say it. Which could revolutionise international video calls.

Such tech isn't beyond the realm of the realistic. Last month, Microsoft released Skype Translator, which does the same thing but only between Spanish and English. Google's version is said to work with far more languages, however, and hence be infinitely more practical. Hopefully it won't require you to wear a headset either, so you won't have to look like you work at a McDonald's drive-through.

So how will it work? It will detect which language you are speaking, and take down your words in text. In other words, it'll effectively give you subtitles.

The feature will reportedly arrive as a free update to the Google Translate Android app.

Google is also said to be readying an app that translates foreign street signs – just hold up your phone's camera, and it'll do the rest. Google Goggles did a similar thing, so we suppose this will be a more advanced version.
