Emergency treatment: the woman is treated by paramedics (Picture: Twitter/@viewfromamerica)
Bystanders watched on "in shock" today as a pensioner was hit by a cement truck in Hammersmith and became trapped underneath it.
Paramedics and firefighters were called to rescue the female victim, who is aged in her 70s, in Beadon Road just before 2.30pm this afternoon.
She was taken to a west London hospital with a serious head injury but her condition is not thought to be "life-threatening", police said.
Ingrid Featherstone was walking close to the scene of the accident when the woman was knocked down.
She said: "It was horrific. She was stuck under the truck. There were fire trucks everywhere. When they pulled her out from under the truck she was moving her legs and she looked conscious.
"There were lots of people standing around in shock."
Alex Ferguson tweeted: "Lady hit by a truck in Hammersmith. Doesn't look good."
Another Twitter user said: "Today there was a horrible accident in #hammersmith where motor vehicle met pedestrian :(("
The lorry driver stopped at the scene and has not been arrested, Scotland Yard said.
The road was closed southbound at Hammersmith Broadway while police investigated but has since been re-opened.
