NEWS: Gay couple: 'Cineworld security threw us out of ladies toilets after mistaking us for men'

'Mistaken for men': Keira Williams and Tracey Seaton

A gay couple say they were thrown out of the ladies toilets at a London cinema - after security guards allegedly mistook them for men.

Tracey Seaton, 28, and girlfriend Keira Williams, 27, claimed they were shouted at by staff in front of stunned onlookers when they went to see musical-comedy Annie at Cineworld.

The couple say they are now scared to use public toilets after the "humiliating" incident in Ilford, east London.

Keira wrote on Facebook: "I have never felt so humiliated in all my life. Just because me and my girlfriend look less than feminine is no reason to pull us out into a crowd of people because we went into the female toilets.

"For the first time ever I feel ashamed of being myself."

The pair were offered two free tickets and a £20 voucher after explaining to a manager that they are both women.

But Keira complained that the guards involved offered no apology and said Tracey and herself had rejected the gesture.

She added: "This should not happen to ANYONE. Not just the LGBT community, but anyone being made to feel like this is disgusting."

Cineworld has now launched an investigation into the incident during the Christmas holidays.

A spokesman said: “We are investigating the complaint and our customer services team is in touch with the customers involved.

“We have apologised for their experience and are taking on board their feedback.”
