Tesco has apologised after a checkout worker was reportedly heard saying "gay people shouldn't have babies", after serving a pregnant lesbian couple.
Another couple overheard the comments as they waited to pay at Tesco Extra in Surrey Quays in east London earlier this month. They claim the cashier said that being gay "is wrong".
After being challenged, the worker allegedly added that is was "free country so I can say what I like!" and "all gay people should die alone".
I said to the cashier her comments were homophobic and she couldn't go about viewing opinions like that. I also advised her I did not want to communicate with her any further.
After shopping I went to the cashier manager who advised me she was entitled to her own opinion, just not at work. He said he would take this further and to call head office.
