A woman pedestrian was today being treated in hospital after being hit by a car in an "awful" crash at a busy junction in east London.
The woman, aged in her 40s, was hit by a black Ford Focus at the junction of Shoreditch High Street and Commercial Road.
Police said paramedics and the London Fire Brigade attended the scene. Shoreditch High Street was closed after the smash.
A spokesman said: "We were called at 9.21 by a member of the public to a collision between a car and a pedestrian.
"The woman, who is believed to be in her 40s, was taken to an east London hospital with leg injuries.
"It is not clear how serious her injuries are."
Hackney Police tweeted: "Serious RTC Shoreditch High St j/w Commercial St. Road closures in place avoid area if possible."
The London Ambulance said the woman was taken to the Royal London Hospital as a priority.
An LFB spokesman said the brigade was called to deal with fuel on the road after the crash.
Sarah Murphy, who works in the area, tweeted: "Awful crash at Shoreditch Triangle today".
Charles Patterson posted: "Huge road accident in Shoreditch - traffic won't be going anywhere for a few hours if say."
