It is not known what teenager Jamal Rutledge was accused of doing, but he was in handcuffs, being booked into jail at Fort Lauderdale in Florida when he dramatically redeemed himself.

Police Officer Franklin Foulks can be seen processing the teenager, when he suddenly collapses, clutching his chest in agony.

Jamal Rutledge immediately begins looking for help and kicks the security fence to alert officers, who flood in to find Officer Foulks lying semiconscious on the ground.

The incident happened last September, but the footage has only just been released by the police department.

Medics say that Rutledge’s actions as well as the quick response of the officers were responsible for Officer Foulks surviving.

Jamal Rutledge and the officers will be publicly recognised at a ceremony next Wednesday.
