Hot on the heels of the serious buzz she created last year with her captivating debut solo EP ‘Chapter One’ and the release of her last track ‘Low Key’ ft soul/hip-hop artist Illa J - which had rave reviews from the likes of NYLON, Complex and Earmilk - last week Vanessa White returned with her brand new track ‘Good Good’. The track - that will feature on her hotly anticipated second solo EP ‘Chapter Two’ (out this spring) premiered on The FADER and has been described as ‘the sexiest song of the year’ by Hunger, with i-D saying it is ‘a song so nice they named it twice’. Vanessa has delivered a stunning, stripped back performance of the track for ITV2’s new show 2Awesome ahead of playing an intimate headline set at London’s ‘LIVE AT TAPE’ on Thursday - a night that will also see performances from NY singer-songwriter MAAD and Youth Club.
Produced by rising London producer Mkulu and written by Vanessa, the epic and sensuous slow jam showcases her addictively sublime vocal with soulful, breath-taking melodies delivered through her own unique brand of future R&B vibes - which has helped her to garner an incredible reaction from music fans and outlets such as i-D, Wonderland, The Line of Best Fit, Clash, RWD and more since launching her solo career towards the end of 2015.
On the new track, Vanessa White told The FADER:
"It’s a song about being honest with your sexuality and going for what you want without holding back and not having to listen to other people’s opinions. I’ve always been that way and most probably always will be. I’m not afraid to be sexual. I think that’s the Scorpio in me. With relationships, people always have something to say but I always prefer to find out for myself rather than listening to others, and the song touches on that.
I’ve grown so much as a writer over the last year and I think you can really feel that in ‘Good Good’. In the past I’ve been worried about showing this side of me in my music and have even been scared to be this free in the studio but I’ve learnt the less you care and the more open you are, the more real and relatable the end product is. So no more sugar coating! The ‘Chapter Two’ EP is my most honest music ever. It’s so personal and draws from my own experiences so I can’t wait for everyone to hear this new phase."
Poised to continue to make her mark on the music scene, Vanessa has been putting in the hours in the studio, working with a host of talented and in-demand producers and musicians including the likes of PRGRSN, Wizzy Wow, Shakka, Musicman Ty (Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz, P Diddy) and Snakehips and has also been collaborating with innovative creatives such as Rob Heppell (Crystal Fighters, New Pharaohs, Nowness), Charlotte Rutherford (PAPER, NYLON, Vogue) and Stephanie Sian Smith (FKA Twigs, Blood Orange, House of Holland). The release of her forthcoming second solo EP will see her building on the support she has also received from Julie Adenuga on her popular Beats 1 show, 1Xtra and Capital Xtra.
Also attracting support from the world of fashion, being invited to attend exclusive events on the fashion circuit – including London Fashion Week shows – and appearing across respected style bibles including Vogue, GQ, Harper’s Bazaar and ES Magazine, Vanessa White’s star continues to be on the rise!
