One of music’s true triple threats as an artist, producer and songwriter, the Nigerian Afropop act Minz has dropped the colourful visual for his new, self-produced and written single ‘234’ (out now via emPawa Africa).
Bursting with energy and bouncing between genres, the new single ‘234’ – Nigeria’s instantly recognisable country code – sees Minz confronting an unfaithful, former lover over an off-kilter Afrofusion beat, with the new Mahine Sef-directed visual now bringing another dimension to the must-listen track.
On the new single Minz said:
“When making 234, I wanted to tap into a new energy, bring my listeners into a new Minz realm. The song is a trip, from the first sample. I want you to elevate when you listen.”
On the single Minz sings “when I needed it, where was your love?” expressing he’s moved on.
“I was tryna tap into a different energy and I realized that when I produce, I bring out the beast like I go super saiyan or something lol.”
First growing up in the well-known Surulere area of Lagos – also the hometown of Grammy Award winning Afropop artist Wizkid – Minz spent his formative years moving around different parts of Nigeria, which is now evident in his hybrid sounds which mesh together to create addictive, deconstructed Afrofusion bangers.
Minz started working on music straight out of high school, assembling his friends to create original songs and even trying his hand at rapping. After studying International Law & Diplomacy at university, he made the decision to pursue his dreams of becoming a full time musician and has since become known for tracks such as ‘Talk’, ‘Odoyewu’. ‘Gyal’ and his poignant ode to all shades of Black skin ‘Skin’, which have started to introduce his signature sounds to the world.
