JLS to split after final tour (Read).Published by @Lanredavies

Boyband JLS have announced they are splitting up.

The band finished second on the fifth series of X Factor in 2008, which was won by Alexandra Burke. Their first single Beat Again reached No 1 the following July and in 2010 they became the first X Factor band to win a Brit award, when they triumphed in the best breakthrough act and best single categories. They went on to score more No 1 UK singles.

The band announced their split through the Sun, with Aston Merrygold telling the newspaper's showbiz editor "It's just that time. We are still best of friends and always will be – but this is the end."

Marvin Humes added: "It's an emotional time. There's no getting away from that."

The four members of the group will say farewell to their fans with a tour in December. Meanwhile, they are each pursuing solo plans: Merrygold has just finished filming the Sky TV show Got to Dance; Humes, who is married to Rochelle of girl group the Saturdays, is a DJ on Capital FM and has become a reporter for Daybreak; Oritsé Williams, who put the band together as a teenager, has his own pop management company; while the band's fourth member, Jonathan "JB" Gill, has apparently bought a deer farm in Scotland.
