In case you’ve been living under a rock for the last few months, Amazon is planning a smartphone. And we’ve just got some new info – you’ll control the phone by tilting it!
Here’s how it works. The phone
has four infrared cameras
on the front. These work withsensors to create 3D effects as you move it around in your hand. In other words, you’ll be able to see more information and navigate by tilting the screen instead of swiping or pressing buttons. Which should make it easier to use one-handed.

This will be handy for a range of applications. For example, tilting the phone could bring up labels that tell you what certain icons do. Tilt it while texting, and the camera roll will appear, so you can attach photos.
Tilting the phone while using a mapping app could bring up restaurants’ ratings. In a video app, scores in IMDB.
As you’ll be tilting the phone to do most things, there’s no need for a menu button.
And if that’s not enough, Amazon
is also reportedly working on a very clever text app. Snap a picture of real-world text (from a menu, for example), and you can convert it into editable text on your Amazon smartphone
. Cue a host of hijinks as you play around with what the menu says.

We’re expecting Amazon’s smartphone to touch down sometime this spring. We can’t wait to start tilting to control – it could be an end to swiping and pinching!
