GADGET: Watch out Samsung Gear 2 Neo: LG G Watch hitting the UK for less than £180

You can already get your hands on some pretty swanky smartwatches, such as the Samsung Gear 2 Neo, but LG is aiming for the top with its brand spanking new LG G Watch, which is one of the first devices to run the latest Android Wear operating system – and it’s just been priced up for the UK. Want to find out how much one of these bad boys will set you back? Read on…

Android Wear is Google’s attempt at creating a custom-designed OS that’s ideal for tinyscreens and equally tiny specs, turning the smartwatch into something that’s truly intelligent.

Google already has form when it comes to turning unusual and tricky form factors into something that’s actually useable, and the company is doing a great job with the wearableGoogle Glass augmented reality specs.

It’s in good shape to create the ideal next-gen smartwatch OS then, and the LG G Watch looks likely to be the first to hit the shops, targeting a price of less than £180 according to theTelegraph – almost identical to the Samsung Gear 2 Neo’s current price – when it goes onsale in July.

What can you expect from the LG G Watch and Android Wear, then? Features we’ve come to expect from Google Glass have made it across – such as voice functionality – so you can pretend to be James Bond while you mutter “OK Google, where’s my house…”. That’s a big step up from the Samsung Gear 2 Neo, and although Samsung’s offering is capable of music playback, controlling TVs and set-top boxes, most of the functionality is carried out via its 1.63-inch touchscreen.

As with the Gear 2 Neo, the LG G Watch will be capable of monitoring your health, keeping track of movements and the distance you’ve covered, making it easier to justify splashing out on a shiny new gadget!
