PRESS RELEASE: 'British Council Live Music Production Workshop 2014



The British Council is the United Kingdom's international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities. 

In line with its commitment to provide opportunities for people involved in the Nigerian Creative Sector and build relationships between UK and Nigerian creative communities, British Council Nigeria will be holding the second edition of its Music master class facilitated by the much travelled Sam Jones of Sound thread.
Sam Jones facilitated the first edition of the production Masterclass in 2013, an edition focused on live music production.
This year he will be training 10 sound engineers on how to set up and deliver a live music show production at the freedom park from 17th to 22nd June 2014.

The workshop will involve short modules on the following:
  • Pre show Preparation
  • Understanding microphone types and choices of application
  • Setting up a desk for a show
  • Recording a show
  • Introduction to basic Dynamic Processing
  • How to use EQ on desk channels and how to EQ ‘Front of House’ and Monitors
  • Understanding the use of monitors
This 5-day master class is set to help young aspiring and existing sound engineers learn key skills required to produce a live music show. This master class will involve 2 days of workshop, 1 day of producing sound for a live event and 2 days of mixing sound that has been recorded from live event.

As a part of this master class the participants will set up and produce the sound at the monthly Afropolitian Vibes event at the Freedom Park, Lagos.

A UK based artist of Nigerian origins Afrikan Boy will be a part of the workshop and will perform at the Afropolitan Vibes showcase alongside Nosa and Salawa Abeni on Friday 20 June 2014.
After the showcase participants will go along with sam jones to mix the recorded sound from the live production during the show at Ayo Bankole’s studio.
