GADGETS: This Pico Projector lets you touch the screen with an infrared stylus!

Pico projectors may not have took off in the way manufacturers hoped just a couple of years ago, but that hasn’t stopped one Indiegogo project from coming up with a new spin on the concept. The new TouchPico projector features its own CPU, memory and Android OS, plus there’s an infrared stylus that helps you turn any surface into a massive touchscreen! Could this be the perfect gizmo for the classroom?

As with the previous generation of pico projectors, the new TouchPico is small enough to slip into your pocket and take with you wherever you go. But like the tiny Epict EPP-100, the TouchPico also crams in a whole lot more.

It’s actually an Android-based computer, for a start, with a dual-core 1GHz processor keeping things ticking over. It packs in Wi-Fi, and its infrared pen lets you control it by ‘writing’ on whatever surface you’re projecting on – just like using a touchscreen.

Better yet, the TouchPico is capable of downloading and playing regular Android games, letting you play on the big (up to 80 inches) screen, making it perfect for Angry Birds on the wall. And it supports apps like Netflix, making it easy to set up a home cinema without having to worry about cables or hooking up a myriad of other gadgets.

The infrared pen looks like a fantastic solution for quick presentations and setting up your films, and it looks even better for entertaining the kids. Although we’re not entirely convinced that teaching them to ‘draw’ on the wall is the right way to go!

If you don’t want to use the TouchPico as a stand-alone device, you’ll also be able to HOOK UP other gadgets using the HDMI port, just like a traditional projector, meaning it gives you plenty of flexibility when it comes to beaming your favourite movies or games onto the big screen.
