BlackBerry may have been on a downward spiral of late, but according to a recent patent, it's about to launch an innovative new handset. A large touchscreen with a keyboard that (almost) magically appears sounds just the ticket. But is it enough to reverse BlackBerry's fortunes?
Thanks to their large, intuitive
keyboards, BlackBerry smartphones used to be the business bod's weapon of choice. But now big touchscreens are all the rage, it's rare to see a handset with a physical QWERTY. Now BlackBerry has come up with a neat way to have both.

According to a patent originally filed in June 2012, but amended this month, BlackBerry is working on a brand new touchscreen device, packing in a massive 5.5-inch screen and a keyboard that can be neatly hidden when not in use. A successor to the BlackBerry Torch, anybody?
The patent shows a swivelling front cover that hides the keyboard, part of which moves down and under the display itself. (How much bulk this adds to the device remains to be seen.) The end result when the keyboard is open looks eerily similar to the Typo iPhone keyboard, with a set of hardware keys directly below the touchscreen itself. Though at 5.5 inches, the latest BlackBerry is likely to be a lot less pocket friendly.
Aside from the pivoting keyboard and a screen to rival the iPhone 6 Plus', other details are scarce. We'll bring you all the latest info as soon as we know more.
