Mark Ronson's 'Uptown Funk' has become the first song to be streamed two million times in one week since streaming data began to count towards Official Chart positions in the UK.
'Uptown Funk' missed out on the Christmas Number One spot this year, losing to X Factor winner Ben Haenow, but the song's popularity among users of services including Spotify and Deezer reached a record breaking high in the run up to the final chart announcement.
As confirmed by Official Chart Company data, 'Uptown Funk' was streamed 2.34m times in the period between December 14-21. Ronson overtakes previous record holder Ed Sheeran, whose single 'Thinking Out Loud' was streamed 1.72m times in one week in November.
The Official Charts Company announced this summer that from July 2014 streaming data from audio streaming services such as Spotify, Deezer, O2 Tracks, Xbox Music and more were to count towards the Official Singles Chart for the first time.
Ronson told NME that he would have fely "guilty" if he were to be Number One this Christmas and that he wishes "he had enough time to make a Christmas version of his single".
