Nigeria-raised, Indianapolis-based R&B artist Teeklef presents the newest video for his first release of 2019—‘Calling’. Out 1/25/19 via HipNavi Sound, ‘Calling’ is the first video from Teeklef’s upcoming AfroPop EP. Last year saw the release of singles ‘Over 100’ and ‘Day Ones,’ as well as a team-up with Jillionaire of Major Lazer for the Afrobeat banger ‘Apart’ via
Feel Up Records.
In 2018, following a long-awaited return trip to his birthplace of Lagos, Nigeria, Teeklef returned to the studio energized. He began writing and recording what would be the beginning of a series of EPs, which reflect the diversity of cultures that make up Teeklef as a musician and as a human. ‘Calling’ is a song that flows from memories of driving the streets of Lagos at night.
Sonically, it merges the sounds of Afrobeat and Hip-hop, and lyrically it flips between Nigerian dialect and English.
The video chases Teeklef around the streets of Chicago, as he chases a love interest from one scenic location to another. Directed by Jay Caves, the video finds Teeklef on the beach, at a carnival and ultimately on a ferris wheel in one cinematically stunning environment after
another.
