Rising Manchester music act, multi-instrumentalist and producer July 7 has returned to the scene - where he first made a palpable impact with his debut project ‘Sweets’ back in 2018 and a slew of stellar singles – with the release of his new single ‘Slow Motion’.

Released via Mr Eazi’s emPawa Africa, as a part of the emPawa30 campaign the addictive Dëra-produced track offers a slice of cool, Afropop vibes and an early taste of the summer. Along with its trippy visuals (dir. Alex Coleborn), ‘Slow Motion’ is set to reignite the shock waves July 7 has already caused in the music industry, which saw Dummy praising his ‘highly addictive and sultry brand of Dancehall influenced R&B’ and The Guardian noting his ‘pin-sharp production’.

Speaking on ‘Slow Motion’, July 7 said:
‘Slow motion is about getting lost in the moment and wanting it to last forever, whilst playing upon elements of vulnerability and freedom. The video is a spectral journey exploring the different realms and frequencies of 7.’

The whirlwind success of July 7’s journey is grounded in hard graft. After moving to Los Angeles in his teens he first entered the game making beats for global superstars such as Travis Scott, Young Thug and T.I. Stepping out from behind the boards to become a solo artist in his own right, he released his first single ‘Pronto’ in 2017 which he followed up with the five-track EP ‘Sweets’ in 2018, which also featured the single ‘Diamond Chandeliers’. Amassing millions of streams worldwide, he has since released two more EPs and a string of singles including last year’s ‘Bando’. He also collaborated with Sango on the track ‘Out My Way/Around You’, which featured on Sango’s album ‘In The Comfort Of’.

Treading the same path as his heroes Pharrell Williams and The Neptunes, July 7 has built his own sonic world that sets him apart from his peers. Never content to stay quiet, July 7 is in the midst of releasing a steady stream of new music. Drawing on tropes from genres like rock and death metal, he promises his next output is stuff that “absolutely messes your head up”. With July 7, you really never know what you are going to get next. “I’m always chasing a new level,” he says, “I‘m always gonna keep refreshing my sound.”
