Emerging as one of the breakout music stars of 2022 with her hit single ‘Baby Riddim’ which has amassed over 45 million streams across all platforms, attracted almost 600,000 TikTok videos with over 30 million views, peaked at #1 on the Shazam Global Afrobeats and iTunes Nigeria charts and hit the Top Ten of several countries on Apple Music Top 100, the exciting, viral Nigerian music artist FAVE now releases her hotly-anticipated debut EP ‘Riddim 5’ (out now via emPawa Africa).
Fusing sultry and addictive Afropop melodies with tropical Caribbean influences and nods to R&B and Hip-Hop, FAVE’s new 5-track EP, sees her continuing her journey to becoming one of music’s next big things, with her genre defying sounds and inimitable creativity. Opening with the bouncy ‘Obsessed’, FAVE’s eclectic influences can be heard across the EP, including on the dreamy, midtempo ‘S.M.K’ which she says was inspired by the Freddie Mercury quote ‘I think my melodies are superior to my lyrics’ and came about after hearing producer Niphkeys' looped drums and bare chords. Also featuring the early fan-favourite ‘Mr Man’ which caused commotion on social media when a short one minute snippet was shared last year, the EP was written by FAVE and features production from some of Nigeria’s most dynamic talent, including Krizbeatz, Phyl, Saszy Afroshii and Damie.
Commenting on her new EP ‘Riddim 5’ FAVE said:
“The sounds in my head that want to come out are finally getting the chance. For me it’s not the number of songs out but the number of songs I get to create over time, and this is because of a ranging number of reasons—my favourite (one) being that I get to see different sides of me. I’m never slacking on a chance to unlock a phase.”
Starting to make music in 2018 with her bedroom freestyles which rapidly became viral and caught the attention of industry heavyweights, including Mr Eazi’s emPawa Africa, Favour ‘FAVE’ Chidozie released her first single ‘M.O.M.M.S’ the following year and followed this up with last year’s ‘DAL’, ‘Beautifully’ and its cinematic visual and her showstopping appearances on Olamide’s critically and fan celebrated 2021, 10th studio album UY Scuti.
Refusing to be defined or restricted by genre, in a short space of time the dazzling new gen artist has confidently showcased her flair for powerful song-writing and modern, no-nonsense takes on love songs that will no doubt become anthemic, call-to-arms for her peers around the world.
Set to dominate airwaves across the Continent and globe, FAVE is the name to watch for 2022 and far beyond!
