GADGET: Say hello to the Samsung Galaxy Tab S, Samsung's thinnest and lightest tablet yet!

The Galaxy Tab S is Samsung’s smallest and lightest tablet to date. With specs like these, the South Korean giant has the Apple iPad Air firmly in its sights. But can it topple Apple’s super tablet? Let’s take a look…

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S is available with both 8.4-inch and 10.5-inch screens. It also gets a stunning spec to go with the more compact design.

Samsung claims the Galaxy Tab S’s Super AMOLED screen is the industry’s best, with a razor-sharp 2560×1600 pixels. An impressive contrast ratio should also mean better colour reproduction, with deeper blacks and brighter whites. This should make films and photos look better than ever.

Both of the new models measure up at a super-skinny 6.6mm. The larger tablet weighs just 465g, and the 8.4-incher tips the scales at 294g.

You’ll be able to pick between an Exynos 5 octa-core processor or Snapdragon quad-core chip. With 3GB of RAM, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S should really fly whichever version you go for.

Other specs include an 8-megapixel snapper, a choice of Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi and 4G/LTE, GPS, and 16GB or 32GB of integrated storage plus a microSD card slot.

Samsung also launched a range of accessories to go with the Galaxy Tab S, turning it from a tablet into something a whole lot more useful. There’s a Bluetooth keyboard, making it easier to type longer emails or even create documents. A new book cover offers different viewing angles for catching up with The Gadget Show on the move, and it’ll protect the tablet when you’re not using it.

It’ll be available in July, but there’s no UK price yet.
