Hup, two, three, four: Google Fit is the search giant's forthcoming health service

Apple may have announced Healthkit last week, but Google isn’t far behind in the race for fitness supremacy. According to Forbes, it’s working on a new health service called Google Fit. This will bring together data from health and fitness apps and trackers, so it’s all in one easy-to-access place.

The report says Google Fit will be unveiled at Google’s I/O conference, which starts on June 25. Google is also expected to announce partnerships with makers of wearable devices.

One source claims Google Fit will let a wearable device – like a smart watch – interact with Google’s cloud services, and become part of the Google Fit ecosystem.

This would mean your Gmail, Google Calendar, and other services like Google Now could use your fitness data to serve up recommendations, for example.

It’s not known if Google Fit will be built into the next version of Android, or be a standalone app.

Google is also expected to announce more about Android Wear, its operating system that’s optimised for wearable gadgets.

We’ll bring you all the news as it happens when Google I/O kicks off in a couple of weeks, so watch this space!
