Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S has now got a UK price and release date. You’ll be able to buy the lighter-than-Air tablet from July 4, with prices starting at £329 for the 8.4-inch 16GB model. That’s more expensive than Apple’s iPad mini with Retina display, which is the Cupertino company’s closest equivalent.

The 10.5-inch model, meanwhile, starts at £419 for the 16GB version. Again, that’s more expensive than the entry-level iPad Air, which starts at £399.

Samsung is obviously confident that its slates can lure customers away from Apple.

Both devices are slimmer than the iPad Air, which is quite an achievement. They also have sharper screens, boasting a resolution of 2,560×1,600 pixels. That gives pixel per inch counts of 288ppi for the 10.5-incher, and a ridiculous 359ppi for the 8.4-inch model. Both are higher than the iPad Air, which is down in the doldrums with 264ppi.

Samsung has also added some cool screen tech to make everything as clear as possible. You can tweak the settings yourself to fit your preferences, or if you don’t fancy tinkering, it can adjust to the lighting conditions of your surroundings.
