MUSIC VIDEO: Isaiah Dreads - Lights Turn Green

Isaiah Dreads is part of the shifting culture in the UK underground scene that seems to be changing and breaking the rules, going to places that were once forbidden. Having turned heads with his previous mixtape, aptly named ‘Nothin’ But A Mixtape’, which premiered by Complex and received support from tastemaker platforms Noisey and Pigeons & Planes, as well as recently being hailed as one of the ‘Future Grime Ministers’ by BBC Radio 1’s Phil Taggart, the west-country rapper reveals release plans for new mixtape, ‘Lights Turn Green’.

Recently celebrating his 18th birthday, the last year of growth and maturity is reflected in beat choices and bars on the new collection. Instrumentation features greatly and is a key ingredient along with his Jamaican roots, which are splashed across tracks with reggaevibes spilling from them such as ‘Snacks’. The laid back ‘How About Now’ and big band inspired ‘Fall Back’ pull in some hefty Jazz inspiration which is completely juxtaposed by the Grime heavy ‘My Team’ and ‘Work’, which are then flipped 180 as Isaiah then whips up the flow again to an 80’s inspired, boom-bap Hip-Hop offering in the form of ‘Brand New’ but it works, It’s eccentric, and it’s fearless.

Introducing the mixtape with the first release ‘Lights Turn Green’, Isaiah Dreads relives the past year and the creation of the tape. The focus is whole-heartedly on music and his aspirations, summing up the necessity for the tape as a whole, not only for himself but for those that have been patiently waiting to hear more from him. With the key led beat, Isaiahdrops a fast flow and presents seriousness to his message via his delivery. The lights have been on red while we’ve waited for the arrival and now we can see the ‘Lights Turn Green’.
